THIRD WORLD NETWORK FEATURES

We would like to introduce to you the Third World Network Features, a features service that deals with Third World affairs and development issues. It is operated by the Third World Network.

Third World Network Features are written mainly by top journalists, writers and thinkers in the Third World.

The features service covers a wide range of issues and topics which include economics, finance, basic needs, environment and culture, as well as political developments.

The emphasis of the features is on providing background analysis of structures which form the basis of many current problems facing the Third World today. Since its inception in 1985, the Third World Network Features has made a lot of progress.

Today there are over 200 newspapers, magazines and organisations on our mailing list. They include the Star in Jamaica, Daily News in Pakistan, the Indonesian Observer, the Guardian in England, the Indian Express in India, the Japan Times, the Daily News in Tanzania and the Business Times in Malaysia. Feedback from these publications and organizations shows that our features are being used fairly regularly.

Many editors have told us that the Third World Network Features play an important part in providing news and analyses which reflect the Third World point of view. We have been very encouraged by this response.

The features are prepared on a regular basis, averaging three features a week. Some sample features are enclosed below. Our features have some unique characteristics. Unlike those of many other news services, Third World Network Features are written mainly by Third World journalists based in Third World countries, and edited in the Third World. In fact, the entire control of the features service is based in the Third World. But most important, we like to think that our features present a truly Third World perspective of development and events especially crucial to Third World countries.

Our features service aims to become a voice for non-governmental organizations in the Third World as many of our stories are collected from groups working at grassroots level, offering fresh perspectives as seen by people involved in community activities and development. This is possible because the Third World Network enjoys a close relationship with NGOs in many countries.  Information on how to order and the subscription rates are available at the bottom of this page.
